In this debut book, described as Nordic Historical Fiction, Hannah Kent has carried out extensive research into the life of Agnes Magnusdottir, who was sentenced to death in Iceland for the murder of her former master in 1829. Thus she brings to life the story of Agnes who, having been accused, is sent to an isolated farm to await execution. Some review on 'Goodreads' suggest that the book should be listened to rather than read!

READING GROUP - (11.30 for 11.45am start)

A 'good read' may appeal and if you are willing to share your ideas about the writing, the style, characters and content then you will enjoy the discussions at this friendly group, we do not always agree and that makes the discussion even more interesting. Even if they have not been able to read or finish the book, Members enjoy listening to  those who have!

Sometimes we find that books that have been recommended are not available in sufficient numbers from the Library, so if you see that you have a copy of one of the proposed books and would be happy for the group to borrow it we would be pleased to hear from you, see Janet Tapping, Irene Lorimer or Hilly Ayton (Tel: 583779). Thank you.

Details of the proposed books are given under the 'What's On' Diary on the dates the book will be discussed. If you are interested, come along and join this friendly group.

MAHJONG

These games held on the second Monday in the month, we hope that even more Members will join this friendly group to play or learn to play this interesting game using tactile tiles with pictures.

One of the Members has made special table tops and the group have purchased two sets for the Club but as some are able to bring their sets in we can always accommodate more players. We look forward to meeting you all soon.
